STOCKTON-

Stockton’s Mayor Anthony Silva has been making headlines after he took a ride in a limo that another passenger is accused of vandalizing.

FOX40 spoke with Mayor Silva over the phone Friday. He said he traveled to Mix nightclub in downtown Sacramento for a birthday party with many other people two months ago. It was on the ride home that things got out of control. He said a couple he barely knew started fighting.

“The gentleman got upset that he wasn’t being listened to and I saw him kick the glass shelf in the limo and he kicked the panel in the limo,” Silva said.

SIlva told FOX40 he would have called 911 himself, but his cell phone was dead. That’s when the limo driver pulled off Highway 99 at the Twin Cities exit and called himself.

CHP and Galt police reportedly responded to the scene, handcuffed all of the limo passengers, including Mayor Silva, and questioned them.

One of the men was later arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery and vandalism.

“You know, are we guilty by association? Well, people are gonna say, ‘Yeah, a mayor is held at a higher standard,’ but never in a million years did I think the couple from Lodi is gonna get in a fight in front of me in a limo,” Silva said.

Silva said he felt bad about the damaged limo and told the driver to contact him if he had any trouble receiving payment from the man who caused the damages.

This week, two months after the incident, Silva said he received a call from a lawyer in Lodi claiming to represent the limo driver.

“He said he’s basically giving me a week to go and hunt this guy down who did the damage and get him to pay or else it’s gonna be leaked to the media and there’s going to be a lawsuit,” Silva said.

FOX40 reached out to CHP, Galt Police and the lawyer. None of our calls were returned.

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s office said it can not comment on the on-going investigation.
