ROSEVILLE-

A suspect running from police carjacked a family rental car in Roseville on Monday afternoon, and he is still on the loose. Police believe he may have since stolen a second car.

Roseville police say they were investigating a suspicious person who was reported near Douglas Boulevard and Sunrise Avenue. When police arrived and found the suspect, he ran from them and they do not know why.

Around 30 minutes later, police got another call about a carjacking further down Douglas Boulevard.

A family was inside the car he jacked, and the suspect took them for a short ride before letting them out safely, police say.

The stolen car is a black 2012 Volkswagen Jetta sedan. Its license plate number is 6VOU192.

Just before 8 p.m. Roseville Public Safety tweeted that the suspect may now be driving a maroon Chrysler Pacifica station wagon. The black Jetta is still missing.

Police say the suspect is a short, thin white man with a shaved head and tattoos on both arms.
