ROCKLIN-

The first Rocklin Police Officer killed in the line of duty was memorialized Wednesday.

City Marshal Samuel Renaldi died of a single gun shot wound on February 19, 1914 after being shot by a saloon owner.

“He(the saloon owner) became enraged after receiving a citation earlier in the month,” recalls current Rocklin Police Chief Ron Lawerence.  “He vowed to get even, and confronted Marshal Renaldi at a delivery stable on Rocklin Road.  At some point he pulled out a pistol and shot Marshal Renaldi, who was able to return fire.”

Both men later died at a local hospital.

The City of Rocklin has only lost 2 Officers in the line of duty in 121 years.

Wednesday, both Marshal Renaldi and Matthew Redding, who died in 2005, were honored with the Fallen Police Heroes Memoriam located just outside the Rocklin Police Department.
