Park authorities say they have spent the last two days searching the river to try and find a Sacramento teen who was swept over Nevada Fall.
Crews are now in what’s called “limited continuous searching mode,” park spokesperson Kari Cobb said. High river levels are preventing a thorough search. Crews will not be sent near the more inaccessible parts of the river until water levels go down.
When the levels will go down is in question, as the level depends on how much early summer rain comes.
Rangers continue to patrol the area daily, however.
The 19-year-old was identified on Sunday as Aleh Kalman, who had been hiking the Mist Trail with a church group when the accident happened. Witnesses say they saw Kalman swimming about 150 feet from the edge of Nevada Fall when he was swept away by the current.
In a different tragic incident Sunday afternoon, a hiker from England was hit and killed by a falling rock on El Capitan. Felix Joseph Kiernan was struck by a one foot by two feet rock as he was climbing the East Buttress 600 feet up.
