SACRAMENTO-

Slow down! That’s the message from Caltrans as week 2 of the Fix50 project kicks off.

In detailing the work being done this week, Caltrans says they are lowering the maximum speed through the construction area to 55mph starting Monday. The new speed will be enforced by CHP on both eastbound and westbound lanes.

The speed limit is being lowered for the safety of drivers and workers. Caltrans also urges drivers to be aware of their surroundings when driving through the work zone, sudden slowing and stopping can lead to rear-end collisions.

Over the weekend, crews completed installing deck steel and portions of the concrete pour for the new shoulder for eastbound lanes.

Crews will begin prep work on westbound lanes Monday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Long-term westbound lane closures are not expected until late-May.
