LAKE BERRYESSA-

According to CAL FIRE, the fire near Highway 128 at the Monticello Dam made a huge jump in size Saturday afternoon, and has now been active for 20 hours.

As of 12:30 in the afternoon, the fire was under 2,000 acres, but it has since spread to 5,000 acres in under 4 hours. The fire is only 30% contained.

The significant increase in the fire had to do with the fire’s remote location and it burning in hard-to-reach locations. The grassy hills are filled with oak trees, and the terrain is extremely rugged and steep.

Currently, there are mandatory evacuations in Golden Bear Estates, and the 40 homes in Golden Bear Estates are threatened by the fire. The evacuation shelter is set up at the Winters Community Center (map).
