ROSEVILLE-

Electric car manufacturer Tesla is deciding where to build its new battery factory, and one state senator is lobbying hard to keep it in California.

Sen. Ted Gaines, R-Roseville, is heading to Austin, Tex., where Tesla executives are this week and hopes to get some perspective on how to make sure the new facility is built in the Golden State.

The new facility is likely to bring more than 6,000 jobs to wherever it ends up.

California is up against Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and the apparent frontrunner, Texas.

“I want to make sure that the message is delivered that California is a state that is growing, that has created some of the best companies in the world, and we want to make sure the message is resonating in Texas,” Gaines said.

Gaines says he won’t actually be meeting with Tesla executives, but will be talking with other businesses to see what Texas is doing right and what California could be doing wrong.

“I think you ought to be open minded and listen to what sort of reforms need to take place in California so that we can provide an even better environment for job creation,” Gaines told FOX40.
