SACRAMENTO-

Fix 50 has officially begun. To avoid traffic jams, drivers are seeing which routes are the fastest to get from Point A to Point B during the evening commute hours.

FOX40 did our own Fix 50 experiment, timing three routes from Discovery Park near Natomas to Sacramento State University’s South entrance. The average commute on a normal day takes around 14 minutes. Here are the results:

Route 1: Normal Route (20 minutes)

I-5 South to Highway 50 east, to the 65th Street to Folsom Boulevard, to State University Drive

Route 2: Caltrans Suggested Alternate Route (31 minutes)

I-5 North to I-80 east, to the Watt Avenue exit to Business 80 west, to Highway 50 east to the 65th Street exit, to Folsom Boulevard to State University Drive

Route 3: Side Streets Route (23 minutes)

I-5 south to the J Street exit, to Elvas Street to Folsom Boulevard, to State University Drive

Despite our results, FOX40 does not actually recommend drivers to only take Highway 50 east during construction. It is recommended they find whatever detours work best for them.
