ELK GROVE —

There are more questions than answers in the suspicious death of a 75 year old man found on a dirt trail, and behind the quiet neighborhood near Whitelock Parkway and Bellaterra Drive Thursday. He had obvious signs of trauma and that is why Elk Grove Police are treating the case as a murder.

It’s the type of neighborhood the ice cream truck rolls through regularly on hot summer nights. But behind this peaceful piece of Elk Grove, the body of a frequent visitor here was found dead.

“I would see them around in the morning with their shopping carts, or whatever they used to collect cans,” recalled Johann Schuster. “He just kept to himself. Him and his wife did the same thing. It’s very sad that this has happened.”

Neighbors say the 75 year-old-man was usually out collecting recyclables with his wife, but not Wednesday. When he didn’t return from his morning walk, family members searched the area and found his body among the dirt and brush of the trail.

It concerns me because a lot of us walk along the channel in the evening,” said resident Jeneen Bennett.  “I know there are a lot of people walking up and down in the early morning with their children.

Police have not yet released the man’s name, or a motive for the trauma he suffered.
