COLUSA-

It’s not every morning you wake up with a California Black Bear in your backyard. In fact, for most of us, it’s not any morning.

But Monday morning in the town of Colusa, a resident captured a picture of the California Black Bear, all 150 or so pounds of it, doing just that.

“Initial call was a bear walking the city streets,” California Fish and Wildlife Game Warden Chris Stoots said.

The bear wound up in a backyard where Fish and Wildlife Wardens were able to tranquilize it. Stoots was the guy keeping a noose around the bear’s neck while the other wardens secured it.

“It spooks and takes off running, and now you’re in another chase across town before it falls asleep. This one that wasn’t the case,” Stoots said.

They put drops in its eyes and then a mask on its face to help keep it calm if it does wake up.

Next they secure the paws. Take a close look at those things in the video and you’ll know no explanation is necessary for that one.

Finally below the sleeping black bear into a blanket, and into the back of Stoots’ truck for relocation.

“Into a more proper environment for him to do well,” Stoots said. “We released him on tens of thousands of acres of BLM land it’s out away from any residences.”
