The parents of 7-year-old Samaya Dillard are filing a claim for damages with the Natomas Unified School District after their daughter walked off campus and traveled more than two miles down busy Truxel Road.

The family said they have been having problems with the girl’s teacher since school started. Prior to that, they say their daughter was on the honor roll at a different school, and never had disciplinary problems.

The child was missing for more than an hour before school officials realized it. Her parents say it took them another hour before they were notified their daughter was missing.

Samaya was found walking in her parents’ neighborhood, but when they found her she was emotionally distraught. The family wants the school held accountable for what happened to their daughter.

Samaya and her whole family have been getting help since the ordeal. Jason Dillard, the girl’s father, says the teacher bullied her so bad, Samaya no longer trusts her parents.

The Dillards say that not once since this scary situation happened has the school reached out to them.

The Natomas Unified School District did not grant FOX40 an interview, saying they couldn’t comment on ongoing litigation or speak about a minor but they did release the the following statement through spokesperson Jim Sanders:

“We can only say that we care deeply about all children in Natomas Unified School District, we take any allegation seriously, and we are firmly committed to the safety of our students and the best interests of the community we serve.”
