STOCKTON—
Police in Stockton say that a suspect armed with a knife was shot and killed by an officer late Sunday morning.
The scene is at Airport Way and Sixth Street, near the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. Authorities tell FOX40 that officers were following up on a different incident when a car of interest drove by around 11 a.m.
Officers pulled the car over, but noticed the a known suspect in the back seat of the car, police say. The suspect got out and reportedly rushed the officer with a 19 1/2 inch knife, forcing the officer to open fire. According to a release from the Stockton Police Department, the officer fired three shots and struck the man — identified as 45-year-old Donald Haynes — at least once.
Police say that, in spite of being shot, Hayes still didn’t comply with their orders, so a K-9 officers was sent at him. Still, Haynes didn’t comply, forcing the officer to hit him with a baton. Haynes was eventually taken into custody and then rushed to the hospital, but later died from his injuries, police say.

Haynes was already on parole for an assault with deadly weapon charge, police say. The night before, police say that Haynes had attacked a woman at a home along Carpenter Road. Officers responding to the scene heard a woman screaming from inside. Officers then broke down the door and intervened, but Haynes got away.
Investigators are currently looking into the incident. The officers involved in the incident are said to be OK.
