VACAVILLE-
Vacaville High School students mourned the loss of 18-year-old varsity football player Demetrious Ward after he was found dead Monday morning.
Police say Ward was found shot in the head in a white pickup truck at an apartment complex off Aegan Way.
Ward later died at the hospital.
“We lost a teammate for football players, a friend for a lot of kids and a student – somebody I just talked to Friday night at the game,” Vacaville Principal Ed Santopadre said.
Police say there is no evidence the shooting was gang-related.
Santopadre told FOX40 that Ward’s most recent school progress report showed straight A’s.
