SACRAMENTO-

A mountain lion captured and killed by wildlife officials this week, is the same animal who attacked a young boy in the Bay Area Sunday.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife released their findings Friday morning, saying their forensics testing confirmed the mountain lion killed Wednesday matched the DNA from saliva taken from the shirt of the victim.

The 6-year-old boy was attacked Sunday while hiking near Cupertino with a group of people. According to fish and wildlife investigators, the mountain lion dragged the boy into the bushes by his head and neck, before two men scared the cat off.

At last check, he was still recovering. He is expected to survive.

The mountain lion was about two years old, and tested negative for rabies.

There was also a recent mountain lion sighting on the American River Parkway near Folsom, that has hikers and runners on edge.

A few months back, wardens tranquilized and safely removed a mountain lion that had wandered into a residential area in Sacramento near the trail.
