Sacramento Sheriff’s detectives are investigating two back to back home invasions that happened Monday night. Deputies say both were crimes of opportunity.

The first occurred on Ackerson Way, near N Loop Boulevard, in Antelope just before 9 p.m. The homeowner was inside the home, when two armed Black men came in through an open garage, and stole several items, before running away on foot. The victims were not hurt.

The second happened just 25 minutes later, at Juan Haquet’s home on La Tour Drive, near Antelope Boulevard.

The two locations are less than two miles apart. Haquet stepped outside his home from the garage to put out the trash, when four armed Black men ambushed him from behind. They put a gun to his head, hit his face, and went inside the home.

“I saw they started approaching to my daughter, saying, ‘Oh you’re cute you’re cute.’ So ya, I got scared,” Haquet said.

His daughter Evlyn was cleaning the kitchen when the men started ransacking the home. She was protecting her kids, when she said the suspects started approaching her. That is when her father ran outside the door to cry for help.

“One guy came out and said, ‘Stop we’re going to shoot you!” But I had to take my chance. I didn’t want them touching my daughter,” Haquet said.

When deputies arrived, the suspects had run away on foot with a PlayStation 4, other electronics, keys, jewelry, and money.

Sacramento Sheriff’s detectives are now looking to see if the two similar crimes are related.

“A lot of the suspects who commit these crimes are specifically looking for someone who is distracted, or an opportunity like this, where the garage door was open, so the best I can say is just be aware of your surroundings,” Sgt. Lisa Bowman of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department said.

Suspects are still at large. If anyone has information, they are encouraged to call 1(800) AA-CRIME.
