WINTERS —
From every angle it’s impressive.
A close up look shows just how close the hay fire is to buildings at Hay Kingdom across the 505. You can see the flames, and a driving shot gives an idea of the massive plume that can be seen for miles.
What started at around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday may not be out until the end of the weekend. Overnight winds only making this fire spread even faster.
“We had probably 35-40 mile-per- hour winds. That caused that fire to move from stack to stack to the south and into the buildings,” said Doug Rogers of the Vacaville Fire Department.
Fire officials estimate the fire has caused about $8 million in damage, destroying four hay barns and expensive machinery, along with millions of dollars in hay itself.
Hay Kingdom owner James Lin didn’t want to talk on camera but says the fire is a mystery. It started on the north end side of the field, where they don’t have any machines or workers at that time of night. Investigators will be trying to figure it out themselves.
Lin also told FOX40 about seven percent of his hay crop was destroyed. That’s seven percent of hay from his multiple locations throughout the west coast. As for the Winters location, some estimates are that about 80 percent of the hay was destroyed here.
