It appears Tesla may have already started construction on their new “gigafactory” location, in Nevada.
California is on the shortlist of states the electric car company is considering to build their 6,000+ job battery manufacturing facility in, along with New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and Texas.
In a statement to shareholders Thursday, Tesla says they “broke ground just outside Reno, Nevada on a site that could potentially be the location for the Gigafactory”. They go on to say they continue to evaluate other locations for the final factory site. The location will be finalized in the next few months, according to the statement.
The company stresses the new “gigafactory” is crucial for rolling out the Model 3.
